Players must have the basic skills and hockey knowledge, as outlined in the “Hockey 101 Evaluation Program”, in order to be able to take part in Magic Hands & Take Aways. …… or had approval from NTR Management.
This program is for players that already have a strong skating foundation and have completed a skating program within the Hockey Skills Program phase. Designed for players looking to improve their stick handling ability and takes aways (GETTING THE PUCK BACK!!), athlete’s will be taught, challenged, and encouraged to challenge themselves in multiple areas of puck handling and take aways.
Arm extension / bottom hand sliding / top hand + arm mobility are all important individual tactics players will need to possess to increase their puck handing ability. Players will be challenged with various drills isolating necessary skills. Getting the puck back is an under taught skills that can reward the player and team with more offensive scoring chances. Players will be taught proper angling and containment, proper use of their stick and how to correctly position their stick, as well as being aggressive and use of their strength when lifting a player’s stick to steal a puck.
