Skill Development & 3on3

Players must have the basic skills and hockey knowledge, as outlined in the “ABC’s of Hockey Evaluation Program”, in order to be able to take part in Skill Development & 3 on 3. This program will cover all the basics to do with skating, stick handling, and shooting. Proper skating/hockey stance will allow these skaters to develop further in stride, balance, inside/outside edges, tight turns, cross overs, pivots, stops, mohawks, and acceleration. Cross over starts and V starts will be developed in this program to help increase the players ability to get to full speed more effectively and efficiently.

Being able to handle the puck while stationary as well as in stride; passing while stationery and skating will be worked on week to week. Being able to handle the puck while skating forwards and backwards will help take their game to the next level. Proper use of forehand and backhand will also be taught while skating, passing and shooting.

The focus of development in this program in both skating and puck handling will transfer over into our 3 on 3 portion of the class. Being able to execute the skills developed in this program will build the players confidence in all game situations. These skills will allow the players to better understand the fundamentals of the game and allow them to play at a higher level.

Class break down – 25 minutes skating – 20 minutes skill development – 45 minute game

***Coach may alter these times slightly depending on what is being worked on week to week.
